I am smiling as I write – typing on my small laptop. I am well, and all is well.
What makes for happiness? It is a condition of rest, of peace, of inner joy, of experiencing the presence of love … it is a feeling that I am loved, that I am here on earth at this time with purpose.
This feeling of happiness does not come easily or naturally; at least for me it does not. Many years ago (it seems like many lifetimes ago) someone close to me asked the question: “Are you happy?” I floundered, straining for an answer. Finally, with all the honesty that I could bring forth, I responded and said “No, I am not.” But, if I had I been questioned further, I would have asked in return: “What is happiness?” I did not know. And, I did not ask.
Today, some 55 or so years later, I say that I am indeed very happy.
While I was writing why did the memory of a situation from long ago surface? There is a storehouse within us where there are countless bits of memory. As I was telling about my present happiness, this triggered a moment (a memory bit) in the past when I was not happy. If we are not healed within our soul, these same memories may surface and hurt again, just like the situation that created the memory in the first place. I don’t need to visit again the situation long ago, as some suggest that we need to do. I have discovered the path to emotional healing resides in the present through earnest and sincere prayer.
When I go to God in prayer, as I did early this morning, He is the One who brings the antidote to all healing, namely, His Love – His Divine Love. There is nothing magical or mysterious about this process. It is simple and easy to understand.
Go to God in prayer and He will remove from your soul all that tends to defile it and make it alien from Him. He is the One that will clean it from all sin and error.
So wrote Jesus to James Padgett on October 5th, 1914. They are words that remain sound advice to the person desiring peace and harmony within. Prayer, particularly, the prayer for the Divine Love, brings the peace that passes all understanding … and happiness!
