NINE LETTERS TO LUKE
Visionary Fiction - A Story
Postscript to Nine Letters to Luke
Gentle River Flowing Continues ...
As noted in the Introduction to Nine Letters to Luke this story was originally written in 2004 and then after minor revision included in a book with the title Gentle River Flowing.
Have you given thought to a river and how it changes its course many times yet it remains the same river? Have you flown in an airplane and from the window seat looked below at the mighty Mississippi or some other great river flowing toward the sea? The river may meander west and then abruptly change its flow to the east, and even take a snake-like flow to the north. Here in the northern hemisphere its flow, though rarely straight and direct, may nonetheless be steady southward toward the Gulf of Mexico, or westward to the Pacific, or eastward to the Atlantic.
In many respects my life has been lived like a river flows. I have changed my course a great deal; I have been flexible where I needed to be, and stern where or when required. I am continually flowing and changing with the flow. Some changes have been abrupt and very sudden. But generally, change for me has been a slow process. It is only when I look over the number of years I have lived that I see how extreme my change has been.
The year 2012 is now nearly over, and I am happily looking forward each day to changes that are presently taking place in my life. Lately I have entertained a new thought in 2012, new for me at least, the thought that I may be close to physical death and facing the great change this will bring. In one way I hope that I am, for I sincerely look forward to what the next step will bring. But truthfully, I would prefer to wait a few more years for my transition! Why would I like more time on earth? Well, I am 77 and have a lovely 14 year-old daughter that I would like to see finish high school and possibly even college and beyond. And my soon to be 19 year-old son is presently in his first year in college; and I'd like to see the completion of his university work and settled in his chosen profession, and perhaps even married.
In addition to this, is the thought that we are ever changing and evolving and developing our awesome potentialities as children of God. We have come a long way, but we are not yet near the complete actualization of the immense possibilities that exist for our full revealment and unfoldment. I feel this truth about myself and things I personally would like to accomplish before my transition. Also, I feel that great things are soon to happen. Yes, there is much pain and suffering, and there are wars and fighting and perhaps more of these things yet to come. Still, something tells me there is a new horizon ahead that will change all of us. Change is constant, the one constant thing in our life. Add to this the change that is constantly happening in our spiritual life.
Nine Letters to Luke was an awesome story to write. I felt blessed while writing and telling the story that I did. I feel blessed to be part of the continuing changes that are in the wind, and available to each and all of us, that is, if we feel such changes and choose to respond. This website is one expression of my continuing contribution to the change I see happening around me and to me and in me.
Today I want to share that have a new book gestating in my soul. I have been feeling this since the first of the year, beginning in January of 2012. In fact I started to write it, but then lost interest and allowed it to go dormant. I think what happened is that like a river flowing, sometimes the flow is stopped for a time by great boulders or other obstructions. But in due time the strength of the accumulating water will break away the stoppage or the river will find a new course around obstructions. Thus, I feel that the writers' block I have been experiencing is beginning to break away, and soon I will begin to write again. And when the new book is ready for print and publication, I'll provide a birth announcement for it in my Blog Journal.
